Buying the Engagement Ring: What affects price?
So You're Buying the Engagement Ring... But what contributes to price?
You've decided to take the plunge with that special someone and your beginning to start shopping for an engagement ring. Buying the engagement ring might seem like an insurmountable task... but it doesn't have to be! Perhaps you're asking yourself "Where do I start?", "What factors are going to contribute to the price of a diamond engagement ring?" , "What makes one ring more expensive than another?" Fear no more! Ecksand's jewelry experts are here to save the day.
We have prepared a fun and easy infographic which breaks down the different areas that contribute to the overall price of an engagement ring. See our infographic below:
Cut: A diamond’s cut grade exhibits how well a diamond’s facets interact with light. Quality cutting is what produces the diamonds brilliance and scintillation, all factors which capture the eye of the beholder.
Clarity: Diamond clarity refers to the absence of internal blemishes called inclusions. Evaluating diamond clarity involves determining the number, size, relief, nature, and positioning of these characteristics. Inclusions are graded on how they affect the overall appearance of the diamond.
Colour: Diamond colour evaluation is based on the absence of colour in the Diamond. A pure and structurally perfect diamond has no hue. It will resemble a drop of crystal clear water. The closer a diamond is to resembling this, the higher value it will have. It’s the opposite with Natural coloured diamonds and fine gemstones. They are judged on the purity and vividness of colour.
Carat: Diamond price increases with the diamond’s individual carat weight. This is because larger diamonds are rarer. Diamond carat weight is the measurement of how much a diamond weighs.
Certificate: The Diamond’s certificate is an evaluation of your diamond’s unique characteristics. It is essentially a report card. Ecksand diamonds come with GIA certification. Check out our article explaining “How to read a GIA Report” for our expert GIA report breakdown.
Design & Quality of the Ring: Quality of build and design structure effect the price of the ring. How strong is it, will it last forever, will you have to pay for diamonds falling out or structural damage over time? This all effects the price of the ring. Designed and crafted to deliver everyday comfort, brilliance and beauty, Ecksand rings are made 100% in our high-end Montreal atelier. Set with ethical diamonds and gems, the Ecksand difference is a ring that she will never have to compromise quality for price.
Fluorescence: The visible light that some diamonds emit if they have fluorescence and are exposed to UV rays. In some cases diamonds with strong fluorescence may appear oily or hazy.
Polish & Symmetry: Rated from good to Excellent this effects the proportions and brilliance of the diamond.
These are all the factors which are considered in engagement ring pricing. When you are meeting with your jeweller, be sure to discuss what factors are most important to you. Do you want an emphasis on high carat weight and symmetry? Or perhaps what is most important to you is design. Understanding these characteristics is the first step towards finding the perfect engagement ring.
